Update 2: We have verified these two methods, and both have worked for us. As of now, Google has not provided an official solution if you have factory reset your Chromecast Gen 2. Option 1 (If not factory reset): 1. Unplug the power cable from your Chromecast. 2. Wait for about a minute. 3. Plug it back in. This should trigger an update and resolve the issue. Option 2 (If factory reset): 1. Set the date on the device running the Google Home app to, for example, March 7. 2. Force close the Google Home app. 3. Reopen the app and proceed with the Chromecast setup.
Update: The latest information we have gathered is that the security certificate used by Chromecast has expired, which is causing the issue many users are experiencing. As far as we know, Google is currently working on a fix. Stay tuned for updates!
Numerous users have reported issues with Google's Chromecast devices, particularly the second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio models. The problem appears to be widespread, affecting users globally, and is not limited to specific regions. Despite the growing number of reports, Google has yet to release an official statement addressing the issue. Users have taken to various online platforms to express their frustrations and seek solutions. These issues range from devices not connecting to the service, commands not being executed properly, and delays in response time. Our team has gathered information from various user reports and found that the issue is affecting a significant number of users. Some users have speculated that the issue may be related to increased traffic due to current events. However, this has not been confirmed by Google. In the meantime, some users have found temporary workarounds, such as resetting the Chromecast and manually setting their device's date to a time before the issue began. However, these solutions are cumbersome and may not be effective for all users. It's worth noting that Google discontinued the original Chromecast in 2023 but has not announced any deprecation for the second-generation Chromecast or Chromecast Audio models. The current issues have raised concerns among users about the future support for these devices. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. In the meantime, affected users are advised to contact Google Support for assistance and to explore temporary workarounds shared by the community.
