Can a kernel learn to not load a faulty boot driver again if it’s causing the bsod problem?

  • Yes, and that's exactly why Windows will eventually drop to the recovery screen instead of going through an endless boot loop. Also, this wasn't a daily boot driver. The system crashed immediately after boot, after the driver loaded its configuration template.
  • If Windows decides to boot without a legitimately installed boot driver, then it would load without protection in this case. Thousands of servers and user endpoints suddenly without AV/EDR protection. Maybe nothing would happen, maybe not. Microsoft maybe would be held liable for allowing systems to load without a critical driver. I am sure MS and its engineers have more arguments. Also, recent articles said EU forced them to allow AV/EDR vendors to have such kernel access. I guess otherwise it would be treated anti competitive.
  • In this case, no. In usual cases yes. Their driver is classified as a "boot-start" driver... Meaning, do not boot if this driver is not loaded. Makes sense on the cybersecurity world, as that means the computer is no longer protected, so you do not want it booting. Or a bad actor just has to mess with the driver to disable it. But it also has the drawback that... Well... You just saw the drawback! You better damn will make sure your shit is vetted and tested 100%, else.... Problem here, is also that most IT departments also prevent safe mode from booting. So they basically stop regular users from being able to use windows fallback mechanism, when drivers don't load.

  • Wrong tool for job
  • Worked fine for me using the exact same wording as you.
  • Copilot has never been great at numerical calculations. It’s a language model. Something like Wolfram Alpha is more fitted for this use case
  • I have to confirm this myself but it might help if you follow every prompt by telling it to show its work step by step.
