  • Steam client itself has a feature to share installed games with other clients in the local network. Otherwise research lancache.
  • The NAS should just be registered as a normal drive if I'm not mistaken, so it should download and update as normal. What are you gonna use? An actual NAS like synology or QNAP, or a old home PC running truenas or something similar? I do not think it will even work with Windows, let alone work any good. If it is a old computer, I would just for truenas scale. You can find more information here: https://www.truenas.com/download-truenas-scale/ You will anyway be extremly limited by speed, especially if it's over WI-FI as you said. I would atleast use an ethernet cable, and if you have 2.5GbE on both the PC and NAS that helps a lot. If you have multiple drives you can set up raid to make them work faster too. You can learn more about the different raid levels here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels. But if you have 2 drives, you can eirher use raid 0 to essentially double operation speeds, or raid 1 to have redundancy. Redundancy means that if one drive fails, tou can just replace it and you lost no data. If both fail at the same time, however, it is lost forever. If you don't have important data and ony steam games, I would go for raid 0. If you have more drives, raid 5 might be what you want. I hope this was helpful, and happy gaming Edit: I just realized you said you had 3 high capacity drives and an ssd for boot. I would then setup raid 5 in truenas for the drives, and use the ssd for caching. If you plan to run it 24/7, you dont really need it for boot drive, so depending on capacity maybe use for just for caching? Anyway, try googling, watching youtube videos and search reddit all while tetibg yourself to find the optimal way for you to do things
  • I did this a while ago. I first used SMB to share the games but had massive problems with permissions and game installs. I then switched to using iSCSI which worked normally. It was very slow though.
  • Just a heads up, in addition to the other comment about Steam actually being able to download from one system to another on the same LAN (or through a VPN, funnily enough). This also work with between PC and a Steam Deck if both versions of the game are for the same OS (using a linux PC or a Windows game through Proton on the Steam Deck). It's very convenient.
