Comparing things on CNN & Fox & coming to a sobering realization

WARNING: LONG OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD TYPE FEEL I've hated CNN for a long time now but not actually because of its well known shaky politics quite as much. Sure if I had access to MSNBC I'd watch that...

  • At least CNN don't sycophantically adore a particular political candidate unlike their other American competitors. People trust CNN when news actually does break because they cover it the best. CNN actually cover global news, have journalists who have been there for decades who know what they are talking about. Christiane Amanpour has been there since the 1980s, Wolf Blitzer since the 1990s, I could go on. That brings gravitas that very few news broadcasters have. To me, CNN's on air graphics bring a certain weight. Why does their logo need to change? Having the same logo since it begun is a strength imo not a weakness. It's all about that instant recognition. We are CNN, you can trust us, you can rely on us. The only other news network that is on the same level as CNN is BBC World. Fox, MSNBC and others are all on a tier below. Sure, I wish CNN would give politics a break a bit more. I'd love to hear Anderson Cooper and others covering other US and international issues. But in general I think they do fairly well.
  • I have found myself watching more and more of BBC News. Pretty much “here is what is happening here, here and here”, and that’s it. I want to see actual news, including internationally. Yeah they cover politics, but they move on and cover other news. And, they damn sure never have 6-9 talking heads arranged behind a huge desk offering their take on some political topic.
  • All of the cable news media panders to seniors therefore they're ALL going to run mostly big pharma advertising during commercial breaks. I wish cable news networks would just ditch the 24 hour 7 day a week political opinion programming and return to their roots of simply covering news stories.

Kevin O'Leary tells Laura Coates employers use dark web to background check candidates. Orwell roles over in grave.

I was surprised to see Kevin O'Leary tell Laura Coates that employers routinely go to the dark web to background check candidates and that participation in a university protest is career suicide. Ther...

  • Kevin O'Leary has really been outing himself as a colossal scumbag over the past few years.
  • O'Leary is a blowhard; did he have any sources to back up his assertion? I suspect he is right to some extent, but how many of the protesters want to become bankers and corporate executives, which would make them part of the problem instead of the solution? As long as they're not found to have been violent or oppressive themselves, campus protest would look great on a resume for anyone seeking a job in community organizing or politics. He needs to be reminded that peaceful activism is driven by moral beliefs that often transcend career ambitions.
  • One other bullet. Activism is a leadership behavior. Leaders stand up and make their views known. If leadership is a desirable skillset for a company, then campus activism is a good sign.
